I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

Michael suddenly quit his well-paid job and disappeared from the face of the earth. Nobody heard about him until years later, when he sent a letter to his father and some photographs of his large house and his vineyard in South Africa.

I know "disappeared from the face of the earth" is not wrong, and even the ngram is against me on this one, but I still prefer "disappeared off the face of the earth". Also, consider "heard from him" in that sentence.

"Well-paying" doesn't work for me. I'd stick with "well-paid".
