the proverb "there is more than one way to kill a cat"

please tell me the meaning and the origin of it. ;-)

The phrase is a modification of 'more than one way to skin a cat'.

Various American authors have used the saying to mean that there is more than one way of doing the same action.

It is a very old saying, going back at least 400 years in written works, and therefore probably older than that.
