Hi.

Is msg a well known common short form for message? Does it have the meaning of like sending a sms or whatsapp?

Can I use msg like this: "Put it below the doorbell & msg."

Would the reader understand it as sending a message like sms or whatsapp?

I've seen people casually use "msg", but I never use it. If you specifically intend SMS, then use that. For example:
"Slip it under the door, and SMS me".

Yes, but I would add me, like Teechar's version.

I would understand ‘msg’ but use ‘text’ or ‘email’, as both nouns or verbs.

I believe SMS stands for short message service. Whatsapp is the name of a facility. msg is just a contraction of message, isn't it? Maybe it's from the days when texting needed multiple key pressing, and shortening was popular.
(I mn, myb its frm the dys whn txtg ndd mltpl k prsss n shrtng ws pplr.)

It doesn't take that long to write "message" and it's better to do that than to wonder if the person understood "msg".
