My Feet
I walked but I fell down and waited until my legs could carry me. It took longer than usual. Then I started walking without the wooden scooter. They said: you will make it. Look straight and start walking. I walked and walked with my gaze fixed straight on the horizon until I came to a place about two meters high. I said: Look I am going to jump although I was a bag of bones. Everybody looked. Some said: Be careful you might break your legs. But I jumped and broke my right leg. There were no doctors or medical help available. A woman recommended a man who was said to be able to repair broken bones. I was taken to him and he put the yolk of two raw eggs on a piece of cloth and wrapped it around my leg. Some weeks later my leg started to itch which was a sign of healing they said.

Yes, I could walk again and started running here and there. Running became my passion. The only sport I really adored. Whenever I was sent somewhere I started running although I never wanted to run way even when I felt weak. But often I felt a strong desire to run away from anything which caused pain. I said: run it is the easiest way and all I need is to train my brain to give the starting signal. I even ran barefoot on thorny ground. I competed with boys and girls and sometimes came first. However, I never recovered completely. My right leg still feels as if somebody has just kicked me in the shin.

I know my feet took me to places I never dreamt of. I became a tramp and I travelled from one place to the other without a home. Now and then I thought of buying a van so that I could leave more easily whenever I thought it was time. A transitory life following a cycle was now my lot. I chose not to work longer than one week at one place. I went to different places on my feet carrying a heavy bag. My right foot started aching. Some said it comes from the heavy bag I carry every day. Others thought it comes from the way I walk and the shoes I wear. Somebody like you needs special shoes with an insole, they said. I didn’t listen and my heel continued hitting the nerve. I was operated on but it didn’t last long till the left heel starting hitting the nerve.

I am thinking of having a second operation but I am more hesitant now for there is still electricity in my right foot. I don’t trust my right foot anymore and if I have an operation on my left, it will definitely feel jealous and start aching again. I thought: Do nothing, bear it or buy two insoles. Running is still my passion and when I come off worst I try to run away. But I have been tied to a stake and cannot run ever since I got a torn ligament.

Sounds like a tragedy? I've always found running as my medicine whenever I feel depressed. I used to suffer from migraine, so when I couldn't bare with the pain any more I took off, running and jogging. I would tell myself that I either recover or die trying. However, it had always worked.

I happened to twist my ankle cuple of days ago. So badly indeed. That I thought I wouldn't recover before cuple of months.

Well, a lot of running, a lot of injuries. But I've one lesson so clear. Every thing in life costs. Jacool

Thanks Jacool. Feet just like fire can save you from danger but at the same time be the cause of destruction. Your feet mean independence and freedom. They are at your service all your life but a little injury can put you out of action. Your feet ground (soil) you but lift you high (air) as well dual in function and number.
