It's not natural to use the plural. Even if your friend comes more than once, stick with the singular and the set phrase.
My friend pays me a visit every now and then.
My friend paid me a visit yesterday.
My friend paid me a visit six times last week!
Bear in mind that most native speakers would just use "My friend visits/visited ...".
