Hi Kam!
First question; where is your mother now? When will she visit you?

She is fortunate in that when she arrives in Canada, she'll be fully immersed in an English speaking environment; something that is very important in learning a second language :D

I would suggest you take her out and about, let her meet your friends. This will give her a relaxed environment to practise her English.

Try to keep her in relaxed surroundings, and don't give her any pressure to learn faster than she might already be (and don't let her give herself that pressure, either!)

I've been in China for just over 2 years now, and in that time I have picked up a huge amount of the language (I had already studied for 6 years in the UK, but I have learnt more in 2 years here!)

Encourage your mother to interact with people around her as much as she can, she'll pick up the language pretty fast!!

Hope that helps you,

Shane

Plus, if she wants to, there is no shortage of places to study it. ;-)

Well, you found this forum. That's one good step. :)

I suggest that you browse through the topics. Read some of the questions and responses. Then post your own question. Click "New Topic" then post a question about whatever it is you have in mind. Be specific.

Welcome to the forum. :D

Firstly, read through the quote above- I have made a few changes. The main thing is to use your English as much as possible and not to be negative about your mistakes, as long as you learn from them. In a community like this, there are many teachers and English speakers, as well as other students, that you can speak to and practise.

Try to be a bit more specific- rather than asking general questions, try to ask questions about things that really confuse you and we will try to answer them. what causes you the most difficulty in English? (remember- be specific)

BTW- Welcome to UsingEnglish. ;-)

Not at all. 'Advice' in English has no plural, so don't say 'advices'. Also, say 'I'll try to do my best'. Use my because it is personal. ;-))
