need your advice

I've learn many idiomatic expressions , but sometimes when I was going to talk with people , I couldn't even think of one of those expressions, and I didn't know what to say.

Could you give me some advice on what topics to talk about and how to start a conversation and keep it going .

It really depends on the situation. Most people advise to get the other person talking about themselves, though not too personally, on the grounds that we all love ourselves. ;-)
