How much is this word used (meaning 'steal')? Some dictionaries name it archaic and some don't.

I have never heard it used in my life.

Probably useful for that and Scrabble, but I've not heard it used either, and dozens of terms are in use with the same meaning.

Scrabble players tend to know obscure words like zax, which is not that much use to know outside the game unless you work with slate roofs, but which can be useful when playing. ;-)

To do well in the game, you do need to know all the 2-letter words, most of the 3-letter words, etc., not necessarily knowing the meaning of each and every word.
