"Several rockets and mortar shells exploded in the Eshkol Regional Council after Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Kandil arrived in Gaza, nixing hopes for a lull. Two rockets exploded in the city of Kiryat Gat. Two rockets that were fired towards Gan Yavne and Hof Ashkelon were intercepted by the Iron Dome. Dozens of rockets were launched on Friday morning and the count continues to climb."

Does nixing hopes for a lull mean refusing to accept ceasefire or there is not a glimpse of hope for calmness?

To "nix" something is to not allow it to happen. A "lull" is a short period of time. The text above says that any hopes for a short period of peace would not be realized. This is not the same as a "glimpse" of hope. A glimpse is something one can see for a very short time. For example, "I got a glimpse of the airplane as it flew over my house". A "lull" could be for an extended period of time - "There was a lull of activity for three weeks while electrical service was restored on the coast".
