Nobel invented a new explosive, dynamite ___ the peacetime industries of mining and road building, but saw it __ as a weapon of war to kill and injure his fellow men.

A) improving / to use
B) to be improved / being used
C) to have improved / using
D) being improved / to be used
E) to improve / used

My answer is B. Key depicts E.
This question appears at the "Gerunds & Infinitives" section. There are many subsections there. In which rule applies there? Thanks in advance.

'Nobel invented a new explosive, dynamite, to be improved the peacetime industries...' makes no sense. E) is the only option that works for both gaps.

If there is no comma after "dynamite" in the original, then there's an error.

Ask Which rule applies there? Beginning this question with a preposition is wrong.
