I want to know, "none" means "not one of a group of people" or "not one of a group of things".
She waited for a reply, but none came.

I take 'none' to mean 'no reply' there.

There could be a number or replies- she doesn't know, say, whether they will accept or deny her request, but she didn't get get any answer.
