It's a noun that names a feeling, state, or quality, rather than a person, animal, or object.

Some examples: love, thirst, beauty, hunger, hate, pride

In addition, here's a trick: if the noun has a shape (i.e., dog, house, car, book, finger, etc.) then it's not an abstract noun. It's a concrete noun: You can touch it.
