Hello all forum users!

Suppose your wife's daughter gave birth to a beautiful little baby girl. Everybody is happy. The baby, however, is full of energy and has no intention of stopping crying. What the mother does is give her the breast and all of a sudden the baby falls asleep instantly.

Are there any synonyms for "give the baby the breast"?

How about saying:

a. put the baby on the breast,
b. apply the baby to the nipple,
c. hook the (breast) nipple up to the baby,
d. latch the baby on to the nipple.

What do you think of the versions from a to d?

Thank you.

That seems very specific. Would it make any difference if it was someone else?

C and D are rather mechanical, though I can remember observing that babies really latch on.

My wife and an English friend gave birth around a year apart. I learned then that American mothers nurse their babies, but English babies nurse their mothers.
