Please explain the following in bold in easy English.

1. Even with this research in hand, however, many in the company doubted that we should proceed to market. While generally positive, the quantitative research results were not off the charts. And the archives were filled with tales of failed "two-in-one" projects.

2. The first innovation involved focusing on the key equities of the business: Boss and Laura Biagiotti. After finding out what the consumer wanted, the team developed a clear segmentation strategy that was to not only establish the two fragrances as enduring "classics," but also provide the foundation for a stream of new items. Unlike usual industry practice, however, the team both targeted new initiatives to fill the segmentation model and build share, as well as reenergized the base business by building classics like Boss Bottled.

Thank you.

'off the charts' means 'wildly unexpected'. If you have a graph, with two axis, the quantitative research results can be charted easily (can be put onto the graph) unless they show a wild variation (in which case the graph is not big enough).

Your second highlighted sentence is very bad English. It is virtually unintelligible.

Yes, this is very awkward, but here's a few tweeks:

The first innovation involved focusing on the key personalities of the business: Boss and Laura Biagiotti. After finding out what the consumer wanted, the team developed a clear segmentation strategy that not only established the two fragrances as enduring "classics," but also provided the foundation for a stream of new items. Unlike usual industry practice, however, the team targeted new initiatives to fill the segmentation model and build share, as well as reenergized the base business by building classics like Boss Bottled.

Market Segmentation is essentially the identification of subsets of buyers within a market who share similar needs and who demonstrate similar buyer behavior. Drug stores that also sell groceries have sucessfully segmented those products.

Build Market Share is to grow influence in the industry by going after the purchasers, thus building and increasing sales of the product line. Pepsi has a larger market share than Nesbits.
