Ok, so I came across this today....I know which one sounds more natural to me (in) however I'm after more opinions.
'My neighbour was angry I was walking on his yard'
'My neighbour was angry I was walking in his yard'
To me, both could be justified.
'Walking in' could be used because it's technically within the boundary of his property, while 'walking on' could be used because it's on his property.
