How are they different in nuance?
eg)-I opted a stay in Tokyo.
-I selected a stay in Tokyo.
-I chose a stay in Tokyo.

I opted for a stay in Toyko. (needs the preposition 'for')
I selected a stay in Toyko from a large list of possibilities. (Quite formal)
I chose a stay in Toyko. (The most natural-sounding alternative.)
