Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentence?

Our speakers today head up the Blue Bay Police Sex Crimes Unit – Detectives Ray Duquette and G;oria Peerz.
our speakers = our lecturers

head up = be head of ; be the first or leading member of (a group) and excel

Thanks for your efforts.

Regards,

V

In your example, these people who "head up" the unit are those in charge of it. They are not necessarily the first nor the leading members. Neither do they necessarily excel (although they probably do, or they wouldn't have been promoted to the head positions).
