What's the meaning of "over" in this sentence?

- Could you pick a loaf of bread up on your way over?

Does it mean something like "on your way back home"? If it does, is there any difference between the sentence with "home" and the one with "over"?
Thank you.

***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Does it mean something like "on your way back home"?

It depends on the context.

If A invites B to a party and A asks B to pick up a loaf of broad on their way over, it means on their way to wherever the party is held.
