Sometimes overall and all over are the same.
Can you give us an example?

But I try to understand this.
What does that mean?

Would you help me?

For example, consider the first meaning [of what?] in Merriam Webster. But it's not much help, [STRIKE]explanatory so[/STRIKE] and it does not make much sense to me.

"The pattern is used all over/overall."

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/overall
I can't find that sentence in the link you've provided.

And which one it is as meaning "all over" in oxford?

https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/us/overall

Thank you.
Again, I don't understand.

Can you give us an example?
First thank you for your corrections. This is the example "The pattern is used overall."

What does that mean?
By saying "Sometimes overall and all over are the same. But I try to understand this" I meant to say "But I try to understand how they are the same."

I can't find that sentence in the link you've provided.
Links are working correctly for me.

Again, I don't understand.

It is the first meaning of overall. Which meaning of overall in oxford does mean as all over?

Thank you.

Since you took the example from Merriam Webster look no further than Merriam-Webster definition 1 to find out about the definition.

There is indeed a difference.

"Overall" tends to mean " on the whole" or "generally". For example: Overall I thought they gave a good performance.

"All over" on the other hand, tends to mean "everywhere". For instance: There was evidence of torture all over his body.

You have demonstrated the difference, would you now demonstrate the intersection of them?

Thank you.

Since you took the example from Merriam Webster look no further than Merriam-Webster definition 1 to find out about the definition.

But it is not much help for me to understand that definition. I am still trying to understand the closeness and overlaping between overall and all over and their definition in for this sense.

Thank you.

What is it that you don't understand about their definitions?

Is overall meaning all over an adverb in Merriam? Does it match with " In all parts; taken as a whole." in oxford?

This is what is my hesitation.

Thank you.
