:an apparatus (as in a telephone exchange) consisting of a panel on which "are" mounted electric switches so arranged that a number of circuits may be connected, combined, and controlled

-From:https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/switchboard

-------------------------------------
1.Could you paraphrase that phrase on which ...... combined, and controlled?

2.The word `so` has many meanings. So it is hard to know what so means in that case. What's the meaning of so in that case?

So arranged means "arranged in such a manner that...." Dictionaries use a super-concise style which can be hard to decipher. Without rewriting the whole definition, can I offer this? A panel with switches mounted on it. The switches are arranged so that different circuits can be connected. I left out some of the detail to try to clarify the basic meaning.

Thank you very much. But does "are" mean "to exist" in that case?

Rearranging, we get:
... electric switches are mounted on a panel ...
