Which of the following is correct:
2-Violent crimes were committed by them.
3-Some violent crimes were committed by them.

I think 2 is wrong because it implies that they committed all violent crimes.

Actually, #2 is simply the first one in the passive voice. It doesn't suggest that they committed all violent crimes.

I agree with Ron. Even unmodified, this use only suggests that "they" committed more than one violent crime.
