Hi
is this sentence right? I read it in the newspaper.
He replied that he has taught psychology and issues of thinking and learning theories came into play in his lecture.
thank you.
There's a comma missing somewhere. There are 2 possibilities:
1) He has taught psychology and issues of thinking. Learning theories came into play in his lecture.
OR
2) He has taught psychology. Issues of thinking and learning theories came into play in his lecture.
If 1) is true, then the sentence should read:
He replied that he has taught psychology and issues of thinking, and learning theories came into play in his lecture.
If 2) is true, then it should read:
He replied that he has taught psychology, and issues of thinking and learning theories came into play in his lecture.
However, I'm not clear if his "reply" was simply that he had taught psychology (and possibly issues of thinking) and the rest is a statement of fact about the lecture, or if the entire thing constitues his reply!
A rather confusing sentence!
