Hello. Can somebody help me to understand why in the following sentence is being used Past Perfect:
"They had completed the athletics track only a year after the city got the Olympics."
If I understand it correctly then Past Perfect is used when we want to say about something that happened before not after something in the past.
"They had completed the athletics track only a year after the city got the Olympics."
