Change to past tense without using the first person singular or plural, also avoiding personalizing.

'Run up the stairs while starting the clock simultaneously.'

I'm not a teacher but would suggest as follows:

"They ran up the stairs having started the clock simultaneously".

I'm not sure, however, whether you mean multiple clocks or a single one?
