I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

Peter aimed his torch at the undergrowth and saw a fox's eyes staring at him. They eyed one another for a second before the fox slipped into the darkness.

Hmmm, the pedant in me thinks that "They" at the start of the second sentence sounds like it refers to "the fox's eyes". You could remove any ambiguity by just saying "... saw a fox staring at him" in the first sentence.
