I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

Peter went into politics with the idea of helping people and making the world a better place, but instead he encountered backstabbing, mudslinging, blackmailing, lies and manipulation. He was ashamed of his naivety.

I have only seen the spelling "naïveté" in writing with or without the accents. Maybe "naivety" is a British spelling?
