Hello! :) This is my first time to be here. Hope that I can get some help regarging my question...

To extinguish a candle=To put out a candle
To light a candle--> ??

Are there any phrasal verbs for "to light"? My friend thinks that there is one using a verb, "put." I.e., can we say "To put on a candle" instead?

Welcome to the forums.

Is this part of an exercise?

I can't think of a phrasal verb you could use with candle, unless it is intended to be "light up the candle", which would not be good English. You can "put on a light", but not a candle.

'light up the candle' wouldn't be the normal neutral way of saying this but I see nothing wrong with it as a way to add emphasis.

He's coming, light up the candles, hurry, hurry.
