Does anyone know a rule for distinguishing the two, separable and non-separable or inseparable?
The ones that are transitive are separable. On the other hand, the ones that are intransitive are non-separable.

Non-separable: (Intransitive verb)
I wake up at 5 o'clock every morning.

separable: (Transitive verb)
I took the coat off. I took off the coat.
I hope this has helped.
Regards!

There are separable and inseparable transitive verbs, and I am afraid that there are those that must be separated and those that can be. I know of no rule that can be applied to distinguish them all.
