My stories are as follows:-
story 1 :Setia Badminton journey's to financial independence is taking the similar courseas the coaching technique that they adopt .Long term structured development is placed above the immediate results.
But , there us no lack of thirst for success.SBA is moving slowly, steadily and swiftly one step immediate results.
Not putting its riif before its pillars.SBA takes measured judgements and precautions in laying a rock solid foundation in the badminton at grassroots level for Singapore.
For that matter , the Setia Foundation, the charity arm if SP Setia Berhad has extended the SBA annual grant of 200,000 per year giving the young exuberant to venture on its own .Captain ( rtd ) John said :" We cannot rely on handouts perpetually. We realised that there is aneed for SBA to be self-sufficient .But , collection from training fees alone is not enough .We need to look add-on value to badminton to generate more funds in order to achieve financial independence. Now, the responsibilities are rested on the broad shoulders Captain John and Han Jian , the chief coach of SBA to lead the academy into a new era.
The assistance from Setia Alam in constructing a 24-hour basminton hall located at its new township in Bandar Setia Alam is set to get the momemtum going for sba .
" We faced some minor planning stage challenges attributed to design and the cost of building the hall. But we have found the solution to it.
Initially , the cost of building the hall was $5 million. We believe that it is too high for a 24-court hall. But we have FOUND .wE HAVEalso improved on the hall design.
Our intentions are good .But , we are not rushing it .There is no harm in admitting that we are not ready just yet.Having a badminton hall , which we can claim to be our own home will ensure that we are ro stans on our feet, "Han Jian explained.
SBA's dream home expected to ber ready the end of 2005 is not going to be beneficial to residences at the township.
In fact , it is going to open its door to the badminton fratwenity from all over the country and around the globe.
The 24-court hall equipped with the necessary facilities will serve as a one-stop centre for badminton players to stay , train and play in a conducive environment.
Recognising Malaysia's dominance in badminton , countries like India , Sri Lanka and the Philippines that are starting to pick up the game have requested Malaysia to help to prepare ther shuttlers for major tournaments such as the Olympics , Commonwealth, Asia and SEA Games through the Olypics Council of Malaysia .
The Olympics Council of Malaysia has offered SBA the task to help out training the foreign teams due to limited resources ( couets and coaches ) that the Badminton Association of Malaysia is facing.Sometimes , it is hard for the visiting shuttlers to train and spar with our national players because of disparities in playing standard.
" Although we have the expertise, we have to turn down the offer as we don't have a permanent training base yet. We will be more than happy to help out in this matter and promote the game globally when the hall in Setia Alam is ready, " Han Jian added.
SBA priority has always been focussed on grassroots development .This year , the annual under 12 and under 15 age-group tournament for trainees schediled to be held during the end of the year school holidays at Kelab Indah, Bujit Indah will welcome the competitive edge from Lister Basminton Club teainees from Jurong.
The club system practice in China has been a hot topic on everyone's lips for producing abundance of talents.
It is definitely an effort that deserves to be applauded .It is a small step forward in the right direction to create a club competition starting from age-group level
Han Jian added that : When this materialised, this age-group competition will expose our juniors to play against players from other clubs. Each club wi;; take turn to host the tournament. It will provide the platform for players to travel and interect with rach other.
