I am not a teacher, just a college student. I have read this sentence: Without poetry, our science will appear incomplete; and most of what now passes with us for religion and philosophy will be replaced by poetry. I don't understand what " passes with us for religion and philosophy" means. Please help me. Thank you.:)

Hi,
I am not a teacher, just a fellow student-the phrase "to pass for" means to be accepted as something, usually when not

Example: You'd be surprised at what PASSES FOR good cooking in many restaurants.
In your example-" what we consider to be religion and philosophy"
