is it text right with the underline word or wrong?

No. 'Has been taking' means that he may still be doing it now, or in the future.

"John had been taking a lot of photographs..." would be correct.
"John took a lot a photographs..." would also be correct.

I would prefer the past tense here.
The past perfect continuous is used to "express a longer action in the past before another action in the past.
