please, tell me whether my sentence is correct?

Please check this sentence?
"The teacher mitigated her ascetic behavior when she saw the culprit breaking out in tears."

It's certainly not a sentence I would ever use. Nor could I imagine any other native speaker uttering it I am very dubious about the use of ascetic it doen't seem to collocate here. Both mitigate and ascetic are highly unusual given the context. A more reasonable sentence might be -

The teacher softened her attitude when she noticed the culprit begin to cry.
