is this paragraph fine?

"Nobody knows for sure. There are a lot of opinions ... around, but nobody really knows how to write it. It's a new word for the western civilization and nobody can say that it is spelled this or that way. We still need some time in order to define how to spell it."

what's the best verb to put on the dots?

I would say, "There are a lot of opinions floating around," or, "opinions being tossed around."
