Pluralizing x's

How do I make a plural of a word ending in x? The examples I have are matrix -> matrices and fox -> foxes. Is there a general rule or is it what sounds best?

English was never my strong point and I was just wondering what was right.

Words of Latin origin change to -ces. Words of English origin take -es. 8)
