He walks into a bar and sits down at the table in the back corner -- the one furthest from the window, where the lights, poorly placed by the interior designer, create pools of shadow. He orders his usual from the anxious waitress, a scotch and soda. He sips it, in the tiniest amounts it seems a human being can put in his mouth, and the other patrons watch him nervously.
