Is there any rule regarding where to use "for" and where to use "to"?
He's going to/for a meeting.(Which is correct?)
We are going to/for a musical.(Which is correct?)
We are going to the pictures.
We are going to dinner.
We're going to a party.
We're going on holiday.

They invited me for dinner. (purpose/activity)

Where things can be seen as both, you can use either preposition.
