B: but I've taken a shower since last night! I don't understand!

This is correct but a little unusual, unless there is some particular reason why last night is relevant.

No. It is very unlikely that "you have been taking a shower since last night". This would mean that you started having a shower last night and you are still in the shower. Unless you are in the habit of staying in the shower for for several hours (!), then you can't say this.

As the previous poster said, it's still a little unusual to say "I've taken a shower since last night". If someone said you smell bad, you are more likely to tell them that you have had a shower and when you had it.

"You smell bad!"
"I don't understand why. I had a shower this morning."

You will regularly hear both, meaning the same thing - that you have had the habit of drinking coffee for many years. However, technically, the second one (in the same way as the shower example) could be taken to mean that you have been constantly drinking coffee for many years (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). It is simply the fact that that is very unlikely that would help most people understand what you actually meant.
