Hi there, Can anyone please correct my writing? I have a problem deciding which of the unerlined words I should use.

Price rise/Rises in prices is/are becoming an acute problem these days. One has to live from hand to mouth. It has made difficult for everyone to meet both ends. It has forced people to live a miserable life.

Prices are ever on the increase. Rises in prices, economists say, are a sing of development and prosperity. But during the last two decades, prices of almost all essential commodities have been increasing at an alarming rate.

Could I also use "price hikes" instead of "price rises"? I just want to know a synonym of "price rises". :)

I think you could say price inflation. You could also say increase in prices.

Thanks all.

Which of the following sounds natural?

1- Increase in price(s) is good for economy.
2- An Increase in price(s) is good for economy.
3- Increases in price(s) is good for economy.

None of them. "An increase in prices is good for the economy" is the sentence you are looking for. (Of course, I would never say that.)

Thank you Taheel, As Rover has said in #2 "Rises in prices, economists say, Are a sign......" is acceptable, then why is "increases in prices, economists say..." not acceptable? :-D

I would not use price hikes if you are saying that the increases are a sign of economic development- price hike tends to be used for sharp increases in prices, for instance when the government raises taxes sharply.

Grammatically speaking, it is acceptable. I wouldn't say that for the simple reason that I don't think an increase in prices is good for the economy. (Inflation is a hidden tax.)
