Pull drive

Hi,

'He is a most insufferably conceited ass about his golf, for a man who plays as badly as he does; in addition to which he usually beats me. What is meaning of "pull my drive or over-approach"?

They are golfing terms. The other man has a way of making the speaker mess up his golf shots.

I have never played golf, but I know what a pulled drive is. For a right-hander, the ball is hit to the left of its intended direction. A long way to the left and it's a 'hook'; to the right and it's a 'slice'.

An approach shot is, ideally the last shot but one or two - which are 'putts'. Presumably an over-approach is when it's hit too hard. (That's more than anyone needed to know, and probably less than Ems could have said. ;-)
