In the "Idiom 3 out of 7" section of this video, did the speaker say, "I don't think this is an American English expression"? Would the expression "pull someone's leg" be uncommon in the US?

The instructor in the video is definitely mistaken about this idiom's frequency in AmE. 'Pulling someone's leg' is an idiom that is commonly used in AmE.
