Is the punctuation I used in the following sentence correct? (It's an audio text.)
The teachers send them work to do at home with their parents, but older children go away to boarding school, which may be as much as 1000 kilometres away; although that's not much by Australian standards—six thousand kilometres is what we reckon to be a long distance!

I'd change the semicolon to a comma.
