Good afternoon,

My teacher asked use to create a question by giving us the answers. Now I'm puzzled about a queston that I've made up.
The topic was about left-handness and the answer was : "less then 10 per cent of the population ". Since in the textbook there was the verb Account for , the question that came on my mind was : How many left-handers do the population account for? . I would like to know if this question is grammatically correct or it is a mistake.
Thank you very much.

I don't think that "the population" itself can "account for" anything. So, I would prefer that the statement read, "How many left-handers does the population report or census or bureau account for.

Or, if you don't need to use "account," simply ask "What percentage of the population is left handed?"
