Sir,

I need help with the following :

Inspired by my uncle, a marine engineer and his globetrotting experience, I studied Mechanical Engineering to pursue the same.

In the above sentence, does the "same" refer to "globetrotting experience" and is this sentence grammatically correct?

Thanks
Srini

It's not very clear, but I would say that the writer must have meant the "globetrotting experience". He studied Mechanical Engineering, not Marine Engineering, so he is not pursuing the "same" career, so I guess he's pursuing the "same" experience.

There should be a comma after 'engineer'.
That's a lot of commas but they're all necessary.

Here's an alternative:
Inspired by my uncle, a marine engineer and globetrotter, I studied Mechanical Engineering to pursue the same experience.
Otherwise:
Inspired by my uncle, a marine engineer, and by his globetrotting experience, ...
