Hi

I am not sure what is the correct question tag for the following sentence:

If paradise exists, this must be it,....?

Is it " doesn`t it" or "mustn`t it" ?

In my opinion "doesn`t it" is the correct question tag.

However, I`d like to see our teachers` advice. Could you help me?

Thank you very much in advance.

I'v afraid 'doesn't it' is not right. The answer is 'mustn't' - usually we take the auxilliary verb from the first part of the sentence and change it so that it it either negative or positive depending on the form in the first part. ;-)

Thank you very much for your quick reply. When I said "doesn`t it" , I took into consideration the first part of the sentence "If paradise exists..", but at a closer look I understand which part of the sentence I have to ask the question tag.

Thank you again.

Is there a "correct" question tag for this?

If paradise exists, this must be it, don't you think?

If paradise exists, this must be it, wouldn't you think?

If paradise exists, this must be it, mustn't it?

The last one just doesn't sound completely natural to me.

This must be paradise, mustn't it?

I'll suggest that the speaker is so certain, even with the "this must be it" portion that a tag stronger than <mustn't it?> is more natural. Maybe this is a pond difference.
