'Pinkerton' is a surname. I'm sure Wikipedia will help ;-)
(I don't know what context you have in mind, but I suspect Pinkerton's Detective Agench is likely to be more relevant than Pinkerton, the faithless lover in Puccini's Madame Butterfly (though he was pretty mean too. ;-))
