It is possible for linguists, like anyone else, to use special lexis unnecessarily, or to descend into a kind of jargon.

What you are certainly going to find on this forum is a very high level of specific lexis

These examples I could think of.;-)

'lexis' is the total stock of words a person has in a language - so it is their level of language consisting of vocabulary, as opposed to grammar or syntax.
