quotation help needed

When quoting a whole sentence do you still use the normal punctuation?

For example,

The sentence: He stood still.

when quoted would it look like this;

In the simple sentence, "He stood still." the author is suggesting that...

or;

In the simple sentence, "he stood still" the author is suggesting that...

When you quote.... include everything (including punctuation) inside the quotes...

In the simple sentence, "He stood still." the author is suggesting that... is correct
