"The Principal will notify the staff member of the decision, which must be reasoned, within four months from the date on which the request was made."

Is it correct to use the verb reason as it's used in the sentence above? In that sentence it means justified, but I cannot find a dictionary entry for this use.

In my Polish - English dictionary I've found the following:
'reasoned' - justified, well founded, well grounded.
