I have a question about the following sentence:
I trust you found both products and services to be satisfactory.

The book I have says that the word “found” in the above sentence can be replaced by “regarded,” not by “learned.”
I think the opposite.
Could you please explain to me why the answer provided by the book is correct?
Thank you.

Thanks a lot, everyone for your reply.
I understand the original sentence, but I am not sure whether or not the two sentences with “regarded” and “learned” will be correct.
I think that the two new sentences may be ungrammatical because I have never seen or heard the following types:

  • We regarded him to be honest.
  • We learned him to be honest.

Here, regarded means "to find" as in holding a view or opinion. It is about a judgment, not a matter of fact. For "learned" to be appropriate, we would need the argument to be factual, such as "I am sure that by now you have learned from your readings that the octopus has three hearts."

I can't tell you why the answer provided by the book is correct, because I don't agree with it.

One question I have been asked at times is: "Did you find what you were looking for?"

It sounds odd to me with regarded.

Regarded...as would work better for me, though it is changing the meaning IMO.

I don't think you can replace "found" with another single word/verb in the original context.

I trust you found our products and services satisfactory = I hope that your experience with our products and services was satisfactory.

If I had my way it would be impossible to edit the original post after there have been replies to it.

I agree that it is awkward, but find it grammatically acceptable, or at least sufficiently so to be able to try to compare its meaning with 'found'.
