Huge environmenatl and cultural destruction for very little purpose. The average tourist spends 15 minutes at the Pyramids in Egypt, which pretty much says it all, though that doesn't stop me from travelling and being a tourist.

One of bad points is they are destroying the precious nature.
And one of good points is most travel is very reasonable price.
That's it.

Phew - I didn't know that. It'd be interesting to know how much carbon the average visitor released into the atmosphere to get there in the first place....
(I heard the other day that the weight of CO2 expended to get a Kiwi fruit to the UK from NZ was more than the weight of the fruit itself.)

due to world-wide environmental pollution caused by global tourism there has been a considerable tightening up on environmental legislation

I hate to think that the Mediterranean Sea is commonly referred to as the largest sewer in the world.

Environmental pollution already has been mentioned.

There are positive aspects of tourism though. It depends on which kind of holiday you want to have.

Spending your time only in the most crowded parts, the typical tourist areas often means missing the cultural characteristics.
You hardly learn anything about the country and its people.

In other words, you can learn a lot if you are really interested in a country.

However, I can understand those who prefer going on holiday just to relax a few days.
